The product

The challenge.

An event changes as it unfolds. Sessions go live, attendees look for tickets, and people move between talks, exhibitors and conversations. Each stage needs a clear destination and an appropriate action.

The project includes attendee and organiser interfaces, ticketing flows and mobile planning. The desktop screens establish navigation and empty states; the planning material extends the model to session actions and mobile access.

The journey at a glance

  1. Register
  2. Find a ticket
  3. Explore the agenda
  4. Join a session
  5. Make a connection

Design approach

How the design works.

  1. Keep the main event destinations in view

Desktop navigation keeps the lobby, agenda, networking, sessions, exhibition hall and information desk together. These destinations reflect the different reasons an attendee moves around an event.

Mobile planning prioritises tickets and event information. Access to tickets without a network connection is specified as a requirement, rather than shown as a completed interface capability.

  2. Match the action to the session’s state

The session model in the planning notes distinguishes live, upcoming and ended sessions. It pairs those states with joining, viewing details or watching an available recording.

The desktop agenda also has a state for information that has not yet been published. The interface therefore represents both an available programme and the absence of one.

  3. Distinguish finding someone from connecting

Networking screens and notes separate existing connections, pending requests and people who are not connected. Search and filters support finding relevant attendees.

The mobile proposal also includes the option to hide from networking. It treats visibility as a participation choice, alongside the actions for finding and contacting people.

Reflection

The design takeaway.

The next refinement is the unpublished-agenda state: provide a clear return route and explain how attendees can find updates.
